Welcome to the Season of Lent

40 Days of Reflection before Easter

Using Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8 (for everything there is a season) as a framework, we will explore how to connect more deeply with God and with our spiritual self.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 - 2

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

Matthew 4: 1 - 11          Jesus is tempted in the wilderness

February 28th                      Second Sunday of Lent

Ecclesiastes 3: 3

a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;

Mark 1: 40 – 45             Jesus heals a leper

March  7th                            Third Sunday of Lent

Ecclesiastes 3: 4

a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

March 14th                            Fourth Sunday of Lent

Ecclesisastes 3: 5

Local and Regional News:

CURRENT DRIVE for WARM clothing/blankets/sleeping bags/tents:

all items are still very much needed to assist our local homeless. Donated items are given directly to the homeless. Since 80 % of our homeless are men, men’s clothing is particularly needed. Contact Lynn Burrows, (250) 753-3942 if you have items you would like to donate and to arrange drop-off or pick-up. Currently, during this week of extreme cold, any cash donations will be gratefully received, $ matched by Nanaimo Street Initiatives and used to purchase used (or inexpensive) blankets & sleeping bags. Thank you!

LAX KW'ALAAMS UC FIRE FUND COLLECTION: At the end of January, the community of Lax Kw'alaams along the coast of Northern BC lost their United Church building to a fire. In addition to holding them in prayer, we can offer support through a fund collection coordinated by Pacific Mountain Regional Council. Though the building was suitably insured, there are many costs to rebuilding in such a rural location which won't be covered, and which would be a great burden to the congregation.
